Dale Hubert, Creator and Facilitator of the Flat Stanley Project

Photo by Danielle MortonI am an elementary school teacher. I taught Special Ed for eleven years, Grade 6 for five years and Grade 3 for eight years. Prior to teaching I travelled through Europe for a year and a half and supported myself by playing guitar and banjo and singing in the streets. Upon returning to Canada I went back to the University of Western Ontario and earned a teaching certificate and a M.Ed.
I got involved with computers while inventing devices to help my special needs students and then taught myself web work to make the Flat Stanley Project. My latest venture has been with a partner and we created Running Records Companion, a computer program that does running records for reading assessment and stores the results. There's more information and a free download demo at the Running Records Companion website.
During 2003 - 2004 I travelled to Greece, Austria and Hungary, Mexico and Scotland as I enjoyed my self-funded leave. In January I took an unexpected trip to New York City to attend a memorial service for Jeff Brown. Of course, Flat Stanley travels with me and I've posted images of him:
Greece, Egypt, Austria and Hungary, New York City, and Scotland.
In July, 2006, I took Flat Stanley to Bathurst Inlet, the smallest community in Nunavut. Most of the time I spend at home in London, Ontario, teaching, updating and revising the Flat Stanley Project, reading and enjoying my hobby of digital photography.

Check out my latest venture, My Travel Teddy. I am currently writing a children's story that supports My Travel Teddy and puts a new twist on a traditional story.
For the last two years I have been team-teaching a grade 3 - 4 split grade class with an outstanding teacher, Zillah Moss. We were fortunate to have had an excellent community of 44 eager and successful students. For the new school year, Sptember 2010, I will be returning to special education.
