Flat Stanley Explores Science in Year of Science 2009
Flat Stanley, an international
explorer, is packing his envelope and hitting the road to celebrate
Year of Science 2009. During 2009 the Flat Stanley project, in
conjunction with the Coalition on the Public Understanding of
Science, invites students, teachers, and kids of all ages to send
Flat Stanley on scientific adventures of all sorts! Here is how to
get started:
Download and personalize your Flat
Stanley template. http://www.flatstanley.com/template.htm)
Identify a scientist that you
would like to accompany Stanley on his mission. You might start by looking for a
contact in the COPUS participant database http://www.copusproject.org/participants/participants.php or a
regional hub in your area http://www.copusproject.org/regional_hubs.php.
Email the scientist to ask for
his/her willingness to participate.
Then pack Stanley up and send him
off with questions like these: What is it like to be a scientist?
What do you do? What do you like most about doing your science? What
was the greatest AHA! moment of your scientific career?
Pictures of your Flat Stanley and
associated comments may be uploaded to the Flat Stanley group at the COPUS site (when it's ready)
